The civilisational and cultural links between India and Southeast Asia have a deep-rooted history. Indian culture and civilisation have played a significant role in shaping the vibrant ASEAN culture, which is diverse in appearance and rich in form, yet united by core values and a spirit of transformation. Examining the India–ASEAN cultural connection through the lenses of history, religion, archaeology, culture, ethnology, and politics reveals various intriguing facets (Amri et al. 2021; Mayilvaganan, 2022). There are strong cultural and civilisational ties between India and ASEAN that have influenced the development of regions in both South Asia and ASEAN (Saran, 2018). Emphasising the connection between India and ASEAN underscores the diffusion, spread, and influence of their culture, while also highlighting cultural diplomacy as a valuable tool to enhance institutional, strategic, and human connections between the two regions.
