After being restored in 1952, relations between Japan and India have gone through different stages. During the cold war period, despite maintaining friendly relations, cooperation between the two sides was still limited. Entering the twenty-first century, along with economic development, the international situation has changed, the Japan–India relationship has been significantly strengthened. Japan and India have pursued joint actions related to the free and open Indo-Pacific region. In particular, in the field of security and politics, the two sides have shown progress in accordance with the new context of the region.
