Interpretation and Presentation of Cultural Heritage Sites
摘要
The value of cultural heritage lies not only in the physical objects themselves but also in the process by which their stories are understood, remembered, and passed on. Under this understanding, the core mission of heritage sites has shifted from purely physical preservation to cultivating public awareness and emotional connections through effective “interpretation and presentation”. The integration of digital technology has revolutionized this endeavour, making distant history tangible, accessible, and interactive. However, the application of technology raises new questions: How should we design and evaluate these technology-mediated heritage experiences to ensure that they remain engaging while faithfully conveying the core values of heritage? This chapter will return to the fundamentals, clarifying the basic concepts, classifications, and conservation management principles of “cultural heritage sites”. It will delve into the essence, objectives, and methodologies of interpretation and presentation; and then examine the specific applications and developments of digital technologies within this framework. Ultimately, it will focus on the key dimension for measuring effectiveness: visitor experience. By reviewing and reflecting on the literature in these fields, this chapter aims to establish a solid theoretical foundation for this study and clarify its research orientation.
