Diagnosis of Cancer

  • Katsuya Nakai

摘要

A cancer diagnosis is made after a comprehensive diagnostic process, which includes recording the medical history and current symptoms of the patient and performing diagnostic imaging of affected organs and pathology of affected tissues and cells, as well as a range of laboratory tests. Based on the combined results, the location and the stage of the cancer is determined and an appropriate treatment plan is conceived. Further testing is performed during and after the treatment to monitor the efficacy of the treatment and any tumor recurrence or side effects. This chapter is intended to give a brief overview of the steps and the technology and tests currently used in cancer diagnostics.
