This chapter studies the potential application of Doughnut Economics in the Global South through a case study of Ramallah in the occupied Palestinian territory, which is known for its rapid urbanization and political instability. Although the Doughnut Model provides a framework for creating a “safe and just space for humanity,” its implementation in conflict-affected areas remains overlooked. This chapter critically examines how Ramallah has started localizing some aspects of this model by building on the downscaling approach, which highlights the role of local governance and community-based projects in applying such a model. It explores how Ramallah integrated smart city initiatives and sharing platforms projects to adapt global ecological economics models to its own political and socio-economic context. Therefore, arguing that despite the systemic limitations, Ramallah’s hybrid strategy offers a grounded example of how cities under occupation can still develop an innovative framework to promote urban sustainability and social equity.

摘要
