The Strategic Potential of the Port of Chancay in the New South American Logistics Route

The development of the Port of Chancay, located on Peru's central coast, is one of the most ambitious port infrastructure projects in South America in recent decades. This document emphasizes the port's strategic importance as a trans-Pacific trade hub, particularly within the context of China's Belt and Road Initiative. It explores the port's potential to establish Peru as a regional logistics hub. This study's main objective is to analyze the Port of Chancay's role in shaping a new logistics route in South America and evaluate its potential to improve competitiveness. This study addresses the lack of relevant research providing a comprehensive analysis of such an important project for the region, especially Peru. The methodological analysis employs a mixed-methods approach to data collection, including a comparative analysis of similar cases, quantitative analysis using an economic model, and descriptive analysis of institutional implications. The findings suggest that the port has the potential to become an important regional logistics and economic hub. Furthermore, the Port of Chancay could be a catalyst for national economic growth and critical infrastructure for South American integration if institutional management aligns with international demands and is resilient to emerging risks.
