Integration of University Governance and Continuous Improvement for Improving the Performance of Higher Education Institutions

This study aims to examine the interaction between university governance, continuous improvement practices, and institutional performance at the University of Basra, Iraq. The study employs a quantitative analysis approach, utilizing a questionnaire to measure the key variables under investigation. The questionnaires were distributed to 40 faculty members from various departments to assess their perceptions of governance structures, continuous improvement initiatives, and their impact on academic and administrative performance. The results revealed a significant positive relationship between effective governance and performance levels in academic institutions. The results highlight the importance of transparency in decision-making, resource allocation, and stakeholder engagement in promoting a culture of continuous improvement, which has a positive impact on academic performance in universities. The study highlights the importance of university governance in higher education institutions and its role in promoting enhanced accountability, which in turn enhances the overall performance of these institutions by ensuring transparency and accountability in operations and practices within universities. The study emphasizes the importance of continuous improvement in the educational process, promoted by effective university governance, which ultimately leads to a more successful and effective educational environment. Integrating university governance and continuous improvement is essential for improving university performance. It is essential to acknowledge the challenges inherent in both processes. The results provide higher education institutions with a deeper understanding of the role of university governance in strengthening their organizational culture, a fundamental step before implementing continuous improvement practices, which in turn enhances performance within these institutions.
