Houqiao Port: Cross-Border Economic and Cultural Integration Between China and Myanmar

Houqiao land Port, located on China’s southwestern border in Tengchong, is a vital land port that serves as a crucial hub connecting Yunnan with South Asia and Southeast Asia. This paper systematically analyses the multifaceted functions of Houqiao Port through five key dimensions: its historical origins, economic and trade development, cultural integration, regional economic contribution, and strategic positioning. The research findings indicate that Houqiao Port not only carries the cultural legacy of the ancient Southern Silk Road but also plays a pivotal role in the modern ‘Belt and Road’ Initiative. It serves as a key node for promoting cross-border economic cooperation and is indispensable in enhancing trade exchanges, cultural interactions, and regional economic integration between China, Myanmar, and neighbouring countries.
