Anemarrhena asphodeloides Bunge, a perennial herbaceous plant belonging to the genus Anemarrhena in the Liliaceae family and the genus Anemarrhena, is used medicinally for its rhizomes. It is cultivated nationwide in China, primarily in regions such as Hebei, Shanxi, Shandong, Shaanxi, and Gansu. The rhizome is in the shape of long strip, slightly curved, and somewhat flattened, with a yellow-brown to brown surface. It is hard, easily to break, with a yellow-white cross-section. It has a slightly sweet smell and somewhat bitter taste, and a sticky texture when chewed. It has the effects of clearing heat, purging fire, nourishing yin, and moisturizing dryness, and can be used for exogenous febrile diseases, high fever with polydipsia, and constipation due to intestinal dryness.
