The Diseases of Belamcanda chinensis
摘要
Belamcanda chinensis (known as Shegan in traditional Chinese medicine) is a perennial herbaceous plant in the Iris family (Iridaceae). Its rhizomes are medicinally significant, with a bitter taste, a cold nature, and slight toxicity. They are used to clear heat, detoxify, reduce inflammation, alleviate pain, and dissolve phlegm, making them effective for treating tonsillitis, sore throat, and lower back pain. The plant generally grows along forest edges or on grassy slopes, predominantly at lower elevations. However, in southwestern mountainous regions, it can thrive at altitudes of 2000–2200 m. Major cultivation areas in China include Hubei, Hebei, Hunan, and Guizhou.
