Aconitum, a member of the Ranunculaceae family, is an important medicinal plant genus in China. The Chinese Pharmacopoeia includes various Aconitum-based herbal medicines, such as Chuanwu, Zhichuanwu, Fuzi, Caowu, and Caowu leaves. Chuanwu and Fuzi refer to the dried mother and daughter roots of Aconitum carmichaelii Debeaux, respectively, while Caowu and Caowu leaves refer to the dried tuber and leaves of A. kusnezoffii Reichb. Aconitum species are perennial herbaceous plants used in traditional medicine, primarily distributed in Yunnan, Sichuan, Hubei, Guizhou, Hunan, Guangxi, Anhui, Shaanxi, and Henan, with major cultivation centered in Sichuan. A. kusnezoffii, commonly known as Caowu, is mainly found in Shanxi, Hebei, Inner Mongolia, Liaoning, Jilin, and Heilongjiang. These plants contain various alkaloids, including aconitine, mesaconitine, and hypaconitine, known for their efficacy in dispelling wind, eliminating dampness, warming the channels, and relieving pain.
