Asarum sieboldii Mig., commonly known as Asarum, is a perennial herbaceous plant in the Aristolochiaceae family. In traditional Chinese medicine, Asarum is valued for its effects in dispelling wind, dispersing cold, promoting water movement, and opening the orifices. It is used to treat ailments such as cold-induced headaches, nasal congestion, toothache, phlegm-induced cough, and rheumatic pain. There are two main varieties: Liaoning Asarum (also known as Northern Asarum), primarily produced in Jilin and Liaoning, and Huaxin Asarum, mainly produced in Shaanxi, Sichuan, and Hubei. Asarum from northeast China is generally considered to be of the highest quality, while Huaxin Asarum from Huayin County, Shaanxi, is also well-regarded. Asarum is also cultivated in Japan and Korea.
