ICT Innovations

Deng Xiaoping, the chief architect of China’s reform and opening-up, pointed out that science and technology are the primary productive forces. Information and communications technology (ICT) innovation is the core element in the development of the ICT industry. Due to the highly innovative and high-risk characteristics of the ICT industry, conducting organized scientific research has become a characteristic way for China to catch up with and surpass the world’s advanced scientific and technological levels. This chapter first introduces China’s existing scientific research innovation system, as well as the science and technology development plans. Then it focuses on China’s major science and technology projects and industrial technology breakthrough achievements in the field of ICT in recent years.
