We have introduced classical image preprocessing technologies, geometric feature extraction methods, feature selection methods, 2D facial attractiveness prediciton model, and 2D facial attractiveness enhancement model in Part II. In this Part, we will discuss recent advances in 3D facial attractiveness analysis, covering 3D facial data acquisition, 3D reconstruction technologies, 3D attractiveness score prediction methods, and 3D facial beautification algorithm, to provide a coherent view of this emerging area. In this chapter, we first introduce foundational concepts in 3D aesthetic analysis to prepare readers with some background knowledge. We cover the background and current research status, methods for acquiring 3D data and the associated datasets, a comparison between 3D and 2D aesthetic studies, and the difficulties and challenges specific to 3D research, which together lay the groundwork for the in-depth discussions that follow.
