Platform Economy: Temporary Workplace, Permanent Emotion
摘要
This paper elaborates, how gig workers’ emotions and actions are influenced by customer ratings in the platform economy. This article argues for a more equitable and open rating system. Through a qualitative, theory-based methodology, it examines previous studies on how people react emotionally to feedback. Gig workers’ psychological moods and behaviours are examined through the integration of theories like SOR, Spillover, AET, Precarious Work, and JD-R. Customer evaluations have been found to have a substantial impact on emotional well-being, either increasing performance and motivation or causing distress and disengagement. These emotional reactions drive behavioural changes, underscoring the need for more robust support networks and the underappreciated emotional labour in gig work. In order to promote a more sustainable and encouraging work environment, the study emphasises that customer reviews play a vital role in gig workers’ well-being and urges platforms to address the consequences.
