Settlement Culture and the Formation of Public Open Spaces on the Banks of the Kahayan River

The settlement on the banks of the Kahayan River is a settlement built on the banks of the river. The settlement was built in a cultural setting where the buildings of houses on stilts and walkways formed public open spaces. This study aims to identify the culture of settlement that is a factor in forming public open space in riverside settlements. The focus of the research is to identify the settled culture that contributes to shaping public open spaces in riverside settlements. This research uses qualitative methods with research locations in several open spaces that contain public activities. The results showed that the culture of living in riverside settlements has an impact on the formation of public open spaces. The existence of internal and external factors from the built environment has an impact on changes and the development of settlement culture. The perspective of the community in responding to the environment produces the cultural character of the settlement to form a public open space in riverside settlements.
