The Sound of Mosque’s Loudspeaker to the Community Soundscape: Case Study of Great Mosquekarta

This study attempts to assess the impact of the sound emitted by the loudspeakers of Great Mosque of Surakarta on the surrounding community using objective measurement and subjective evaluation. The objective measurement was taken using a sound level meter in the courtyard of the mosque. The subjective evaluation was conducted by conducting interviews at the area of Keraton Kasunanan Surakarta, Great Mosque of Surakarta, and Klewer market regions. The loudspeaker emits the sound of the adhan and the sound of the Quran recitation at 75 dBA. The interview data shows the entire respondent feels positive with the sound from Great Mosque of Surakarta. The problems occur from the small mosques near Great Mosque of Surakarta which emits high level of sound to the surrounding area. The respondent at Klewer market enjoys the sound from the Great Mosque of Surakarta which is broadcast using the public address system inside the market.
