Formulating Design Principles for Sinumbra Tea Plantation Based on Industrial Heritage Design Concept

Sinumbra Tea Plantation in West Java, potentially a Cultural Heritage site, now faces neglect and a halt in orthodox black tea production. This indicates a lack of preservation efforts in an area with cultural heritage value. This research aims to propose the principles for designing an Industrial Heritage Area capable of accommodating the future development of industries in the Sinumbra Tea Plantation region while preserving its cultural heritage value. The study employs an exploratory approach and qualitative analysis method, utilizing data from area observations and literature reviews. The analysis resulted in nine design principles: (1) Sustainable Industrial Heritage Environment; (2) Publicly Accessible Industrial Heritage Site; (3) Diverse Spaces, Dynamic Experiences; (4) Controlled Building Density and Intensity; (5) Harmonizing Spaces with Open Green Connectivity; (6) Transformative Reuse for Ever-Evolving Industries; (7) Co-existent Development with Cultural Values; (8) Excellence in Public Facilities and Utilities; (9) Retaining Authenticity and Integrity.
