Development Strategy and Management for the Industrial Heritage Malabar Tea Plantation, Bandung Regency

The Malabar tea plantation, Bandung Regency, is a significant hub for the tea industry in West Java, recognised as a relict of the Dutch colonial era. The Malabar tea plantation area holds immense potential in preserving and conserving the industrial heritage area, including its factory buildings, plantation lands, residential structures, and other historical remnants. By identifying its potential and challenges, this study proposes an appropriate design approach to preserve the industrial heritage area through agrotourism activities. Employing an exploratory qualitative methodology, this study comprehensively identifies digital data and directly explores the Malabar tea plantation area by analyzing aspects of industrial heritage and urban design elements to capture its natural beauty and historical significance. The framework of industrial heritage conservation in fostering integrated and inclusive transformations in heritage areas will be a key finding, providing foundational concepts for managing and revitalizing industrial heritage areas throughout Indonesia, particularly in plantation heritage areas.
