How Activities Contribute to Restorative Experience in Public Green Spaces for a Sustainable Campus
摘要
The increasing awareness regarding sustainable development lead the university to explore the importance of green spaces for environmental and community well-being. Numerous studies have shown that green spaces can reduce stress among students. This study aims to understand the correlation between activities and the surrounding elements in a public green space and to study human perceptions related to the restoration process for a more sustainable campus. This research was conducted at Wisdom Park in Universitas Gadjah Mada, Indonesia. This research used a place-centered mapping to observe and identify the activity types and locations and 22 questionnaires to understand users’ perceptions of the Wisdom Park environment. The activity data are classified into necessary, optional, and social. The physical elements in the green space where the activities occurred are also categorized into multiple groups. The result shows that landscape elements correlate with specific activities and its restorative experience.
