Sustainable Future Living: The Relationship Between High-Speed Train Station Construction and Urban Development in Karawang

Developing peri-urban areas is pivotal in fostering regional economic growth and influencing urban spatial dynamics. This research delves into the implementation of the Jakarta Bandung high-speed railway (HSR) in Karawang Station, an expanding peri-urban region characterized by a robust industrial sector. Disparities between developed zones managed by developers and underdeveloped rural areas lead to unequal access to urban amenities and transportation, impacting community welfare. The research highlights the need for equitable access to facilities for both developer-controlled zones and rural communities. Challenges such as uneven accessibility and complex infrastructure hinder rural-urban linkages. To address this, involving developers in infrastructure development is recommended to meet diverse urban needs while enhancing community well-being. Government-private sector collaboration is essential for sustainable environmental practices, bridging infrastructure gaps, and ensuring inclusive benefits from Jakarta-Bandung HSR.
