The Impact of Collaborative Learning Environments on Interest Development: A Science of Learning Perspective
摘要
Social constructivist learning theories have highlighted the importance of learners’ knowledge creation through exploration and social interaction (Vygotsky, 1978). Collaborative learning environments provide a platform for learners to interact with one another, and through the process not only give and receive information and feedback from each other, but also in providing social support and encouragement (Micari & Pazos, 2021). Interest is a multifaceted motivational construct that contributes significantly to learning by enabling learners to intrinsically pursue a subject of interest (Hidi & Renninger, 2006), leading to a host of positive learning outcomes. This chapter will expound on how collaborative learning environments can facilitate the development of interest within an informal learning environment, viewed through a neuroscientific lens, providing implications to teaching and learning.
