摘要

The theoretical framework of cooperative learning for this chapter is grounded in social interdependence theory. Alongside the five elements proposed by this theory; we emphasise additional elements of cooperative learning that are essential for fostering 21st-century skills. Cooperative learning, as described through the 14 elements highlighted in this chapter, can effectively nurture a range of essential skills. These skills encompass leadership competencies, communication, cooperation, problem-solving, critical thinking, analytical skills, mutual respect, emotional intelligence, perseverance, commitment and responsibility, self-leadership, and the management of stress and anxiety. In essence, it provides students with opportunities to practice these skills within the educational settings, functioning as small, natural communities that prepare them for societal life. Despite the multifaceted benefits of cooperative learning, its implementation in classroom environments presents certain challenges and limitations. In this chapter, we aim to propose solutions to address and mitigate these challenges.
