Existential Humanities in the Multicultural Language Classroom
摘要
This chapter explores how existential humanities can be effectively applied to turn the challenges of India’s multilingual, multicultural English classrooms into rich opportunities. Multilingually and multiculturally divergent classrooms present themselves as a rich resource for learning life skills and life lessons. When learners find diversity meaningful and natural, they embrace it. Nevertheless, classroom strategies must be planned well in order to ensure that all the cultural and linguistic groups are given objective and equal representation. In this light, the chapter shifts from conventional perspectives and views mixed classrooms not as a challenge but as spaces to practice existential humanities.
