Technological Tides: Urban Household Dynamics in a Developing South Asia
摘要
One of the areas where technology is gradually yet powerfully altering the contours is the urban household. The alteration is even more radical in the developing society, especially in South Asia, which is poised for economic growth. The blend of dynamism in social and economic undercurrents in the face of rapid technological evolutions presents an exciting interface worth studying. The chapter attempts to trace and evaluate the impact of technology on educational processes in South Asia’s urban society. Through a thorough evaluation of government datasets for cities in India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka, the change in urban household dynamics will be examined. Consequently, the chapter argues, inter alia, for a re-examination of the distinction between urban and rural society. It highlights the potential increased proximity of the “rural” and “urban,” underlining the profound changes in urban society in South Asia. Finally, the chapter will also discuss the implications for the third key domain of human life—the political domain.
