Since the Opium War, China had been in a state of poverty and weakness with the invasion of the European powers. People with lofty ideals had longed for the country’s prosperity and the people’s wealth, but this state of poverty and weakness had lasted for a long time, and China hadn’t realized such goal. In 1949, the People’s Republic of China was established. The Chinese nation stood up from then, but it has been far from getting rich. Compared with industrialized countries in the world, China was still in poverty. This became a big worry for the old generation of revolutionaries. They devoted themselves to finding the path to prosperity but have yet to fulfill this wish.
