In the Southern Dynasty, Wu Ballads and Xi Qu became popular, which influenced Bao Zhao, Tang Huixiu, and others who paid attention to folk literature; as a result, they facilitated the further development of five-character and seven-character poetry. Bai Juyi, Liu Yuxi, and others appreciated the folk songs in Sichuan and Hubei region, hence imitate them in literary creation. As a result, they facilitated the forming of Ci-poetry. These examples indicate that knowledgeable literati should pay attention to absorbing the nutrition in folk literature and take advantages of them to push forward literary development.
