After the An Lushan Rebellion, the central government’s ruling power in the Tang Dynasty was severely weakened. Local warlords seized power; eunuchs held sway within the imperial court and court officials formed factions and engaged in mutual attacks. The political landscape was dark and internal contradictions within the ruling class intensified. During this period, some literati used the weapon of literature and art to engage in political struggles. They wrote works reflecting the hardships of the people, hoping to alleviate social conflicts and reconsolidate central power. This gave rise to the New Yuefu Movement during the middle period of the Tang Dynasty.
