Rasch analysis was developed in 1953 by the Danish mathematician Georg Rasch. Most of the assessment tools used in the field of cosmetic dermatology and aesthetic medicine are scored using ordinal scales, and total scores are typically calculated. For example, to assess the level of difficulty experienced during the recovery period after a cosmetic skin procedure, the items shown in Table 17.1 might be included in a questionnaire.
