Designing Nudges, Designing Trust: Toward Ethical and Human-Centered AI
摘要
Algorithmic nudges are subtle forms of digital choice architecture embedded in AI systems, designed to steer user behavior predictably without restricting freedom of choice. As these nudges permeate digital environments—from personalized search suggestions to curated social media feeds—they function silently but powerfully, adapting in real-time based on behavioral data. While they enhance personalization and efficiency, their invisible influence raises significant ethical concerns, including manipulation, opacity, and diminished user agency. This chapter explores the mechanisms through which algorithmic nudges operate and evaluates their implications for human autonomy, ethical design, and responsible AI governance. It also considers how users might actively engage with and redirect algorithmic behaviors to align with human-centered values. Through a dual analysis of how AI nudges humans and how humans can nudge AI, the chapter offers a critical framework for designing transparent, accountable, and ethically attuned algorithmic systems.
