In our research, we sought to identify the patent technologies most attuned to users—those that genuinely consider the user’s perspective. This was no easy task. But if we reversed course and looked instead for patents that stand in opposition to users, that completely disregard user interests, the answer would undoubtedly be Digital Rights Management (DRM) technologies. These are technologies that treat the average user as an adversary—arguably even worse than Sony’s labyrinthine Memory Stick patents.
