In recent years, driven by the rapid advancement of nuclear power, thermal power, hydropower, petrochemicals, and other energy sectors in China, the demand for cylindrical large forgings has significantly increased. These forgings now reach diameters exceeding 4000 mm, with some extending up to 6000 mm, while quality requirements have become increasingly stringent. Simultaneously, there is a growing demand for thick-walled pipes, large-diameter seamless thick-walled pipes, and extra-thick pipes. On one hand, these products must meet larger size and weight specifications, accompanied by elevated quality standards. On the other hand, production costs must remain competitive (Zhang et al. in Large Castings and Forgings 2:44–48, 2000).

On the other hand, production costs must remain competitive (Zhang et al. in Large Castings and Forgings 2:44–48, 2000).
