Materials innovation in fashion plays an unassailable role in the achievement of sustainable future fashion. This chapter examines the paradoxes inherent in the pursuit of eco-friendly practices while maintaining the aesthetic and functional demands of contemporary fashion. This introductory chapter provides a succinct discussion on the transformative potential of innovative materials, including bio-based textiles, recycled fibres, and advanced manufacturing techniques in achieving green fashion. Moreso, the chapter discusses the societal rhetoric inherent in the sustainable fashion transition and provides a path for widespread adoption. Furthermore, the chapter provides a meticulous overview of the critical role of collaboration among designers, manufacturers, and consumers in overcoming these barriers.
