Fault Section Location of Distribution Network Containing Distributed Generation Using Student Psychology Based Optimization Algorithm

To face the distribution network containing distributed generation (DG), we propose to use the student psychology based optimization (SPBO) algorithm to locate the fault sections. Furthermore, by using the Gaussian random distribution instead of the uniform random distribution, an improved SPBO (ISPBO) algorithm is developed. Simulation results over 1000 independent experiments have shown that, regardless of the fault situations, the ISPBO algorithm has a relatively high fault location accuracy on the premise of the SPBO algorithm. Unlike the particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm, the proposed SPBO and ISPBO algorithms do not require adjustment of parameters to achieve a good positioning effect.
