LNG-CERS 3.0: Integrated Cold Energy-Computing System for Sustainable Data Centers: Case Study at CNOOC Huizhou LNG Terminal

This study presents LNG-CERS 3.0, an integrated system for liquefied natural gas (LNG) cold energy recovery and high-density computing infrastructure. Deployed at the CNOOC Huizhou LNG Terminal (annual capacity: six million tons), the system achieves significant advancements in energy efficiency, carbon reduction, and economic viability. Key results include a power usage effectiveness (PUE) of 0.918 ± 0.003, a cold energy utilization rate of 91.3%, and a 42% reduction in capital expenditure compared to subsea solutions. Innovations encompass a deep reinforcement learning-based dynamic control algorithm and a diamond-graphene nanocomposite cold plate with exceptional thermal conductivity (22,000 W/m·K). This research provides a replicable model for coastal LNG terminals to achieve carbon neutrality while supporting computational demands.
