The Future of Cost-Effective Cybersecurity: Emerging Threats and Innovations

Cybersecurity is increasingly challenged by the convergence of advanced technologies and escalating threats, while organizational resources remain limited. Ensuring resilience under such constraints requires cost-effective strategies that align innovation with efficiency. This research addresses the persistent gap between growing cyber risks and constrained budgets, which is further intensified by workforce shortages, regulatory burdens, and unequal defensive capacities across sectors. While prior research has examined individual technologies or governance approaches, integrated frameworks that connect economic efficiency with emerging innovations remain scarce. To bridge this gap, the research synthesizes recent studies on cybersecurity economics and critically evaluates practical solutions such as AIoT, IoE, LLMs, autonomous agents, open-source ecosystems, zero-trust architectures, blockchain, and federated learning. Additionally, it reviews governance frameworks such as the NIST CSF, NIST AI RMF, and ISO/IEC 27001, linking them to cost-conscious practices. Moreover, the analysis considers implications for SMEs, governments, and critical infrastructures, proposing a strategic roadmap. In conclusion, it highlights that sustainable cybersecurity demands integrated innovation, harmonized governance, and human-centric oversight to achieve resilience without disproportionate cost.
