Teaching and Learning Transversal Competencies in Vietnam: Policy, Curriculum, Textbooks, and Implementation
摘要
The Vietnamese education system has undergone drastic changes from policy to practice in recent years. One highlight is the shift from a focus on imparting knowledge to one of developing students’ capabilities. Several studies on general competencies, twenty-first-century competencies, transversal competencies, and global citizenship have been carried out. Along with the requirements of socioeconomic development and researchers’ recommendations, educational policies and practices are gradually being transformed into an education that prepares learners to live, learn, and work successfully in society, helping them become responsible citizens in society and globally. The purpose of this chapter is to analyze and discuss Vietnam’s policies, from the national to the school level, in teaching and fostering students’ transversal competencies. It also focuses on teacher awareness, classroom practice, and assessment methods, as well as the difficulties teachers face in teaching transversal competencies.
