Artificial Intelligence (AI) has become a pivotal subject in today’s technological landscape, necessitating the development of AI literacy skills among secondary school students. This study explores the needs of secondary school teachers in Hong Kong regarding online learning platforms for teaching AI literacy. Through a two-phase approach, we first conducted interviews with 22 teachers to identify key factors influencing their decision to use online learning platforms. The results highlighted lesson time constraints and platform usability as critical considerations. Subsequently, a survey (n = 40) was administered to validate the interactive features identified from the interviews. Our findings indicate a strong preference for self-paced tutorials, automatic assessment functions, and user-friendly interfaces. Additionally, teachers expressed a need for interactive tools such as instructional videos, chatbots for collaborative learning, and AI-based simulators for game-based learning. This study provides valuable insights for the design of online learning platforms that support AI literacy education, addressing both the challenges and preferences of teachers.
