During the past decades, several changes in dementia are ongoing. The World Health Organization (WHO) stated that dementia should be a public health priority in 2012; thereafter, several national-based policies on dementia prevention, diagnosis, and care were declared. In response to the implementation of dementia prevention strategies, there were global changes in the incidence and prevalence of dementia. Although raising awareness and reducing dementia-related stigma are important, disparities in public awareness exist in different countries. Advance in biomarkers changes the diagnosis of dementia, especially in Alzheimer’s disease. Increasing knowledge of neuropathological changes in different types of dementia makes targeted therapy possible. In this chapter, we will discuss the changes in dementia in the past decades in the following aspects:
