This chapter explored the understanding of resistance, principles, factors, mechanisms, challenges, and possible solutions for sustainable pest management. This study examines the rise in resistant arthropods and compares them with historical data. This chapter offers perspectives and insights into the current problematic situations. It categorizes challenges based on urgency into immediate, medium-term, and fundamental and unresolvable challenges. Furthermore, it discusses emerging mechanisms of resistance, such as the insect gut microbiome, and the roles of transcriptomics and proteomics in insecticide resistance. In conclusion, this chapter presents effective solutions, highlighting improved chemical methods, cultural practices, and biological control. It also introduces new strategies such as RNAi, microbial bioremediation, and refuge strategies. Overall, this chapter offers an optimistic view of future generations.
