Nitriding layer was prepared on Fe-Ni based alloy (HT700 alloy). The air and steam oxidation performance of nitriding layer on Fe-Ni based alloy was investigated at 650 °C. The results show that oxide of nitrided HT700 cracked and fell off from substrate after oxidation for 100 h at 650 °C in air and steam. Nitriding process may reduce the oxidation resistance of HT700 alloy. Nitrided HT700 show better oxidation resistance in air than steam at 650 °C.
