Artificial Intelligence (AI) and digital innovations are reshaping Indian agriculture, driven by government initiatives and private innovations. India’s AI Mission, revised National e-Governance Programme in the Agricultural Sector (NeGPA) guidelines, and Agri Stack are fostering infrastructure and policy frameworks for wider digital adoption in agriculture. Despite progress, challenges in ethical deployment, data privacy, and rural connectivity remain barriers to scalability. This article highlights policy recommendations to upscale digital innovations in agriculture, including ecosystem development for agri-digital start-ups, open-source cloud platforms, agricultural technology hubs, and optimized data policies to reduce lags in data sharing while ensuring privacy. Promoting API integration, non-transactional services, and traceability in supply chains will improve service delivery and transparency. Export-related guidance can enable start-ups to expand globally, while farm-level interventions like agri-digital subsidies and investments in rural digital infrastructure can bridge the digital divide and incentivize technology adoption among farmers. Emphasis on training and digital literacy is essential for effective utilization of innovations in rural areas. Public-private partnerships and an enabling policy environment can transform agriculture by aligning digital solutions with farmers’ needs while ensuring economic viability for innovators. This article presents pathways for scaling digital agriculture in India, ensuring productivity, inclusivity, and sustainability while addressing structural and technological challenges in the sector.
