Haematological malignancies are a unique set of neoplasms with marked variation in the clinical presentation from asymptomatic and indolent behaviour to presentation with oncological emergencies and rapidly fatal outcome if not treated urgently. A remarkable progress has occurred over the last decades through well-conducted randomized clinical trials and translational research. This has led to a significantly better understanding of biology and improvement in survival. Appropriate diagnosis and management of these cancers require close interaction between the pathologists, oncologists, radiologists, nursing team and palliative care specialists. The principles of therapy in haematological malignancies have paved the way for other solid tumours too.

摘要
