Paediatric Tumours
摘要
Cancer is known to affect a person of any age and gender including children. Childhood cancers are rare, the age group for paediatric malignancies ranges from 0 to 14 years, whereas some centres and countries may accept children up to 18 years. After a cancer diagnosis and suitable cancer-directed therapy (CDT), childhood cancer survival rates are 80% or higher (in many high-income countries) compared to overall long-term survival of 50% or less for adult cancers. Worldwide, nearly 300,000 children are diagnosed with cancer out of which approximately 50,000 are seen in India every year, amounting to 17% of global childhood cancer burden. The cancer diagnosis and CDT can have various deleterious effects on a child’s body and mind. Cancer cure, rehabilitation, and research have received much greater attention and funding in developed countries. The childhood cancer diagnosis, access to specialised treatment centres, and rehabilitation in the society face several hurdles in Low-and Middle-Income Countries (LMIC).
