The chapter presents an analysis of the existing digitisation techniques for data acquisition at the building scale, employing methods such as photogrammetry and Virtual Reality (VR) techniques. On the one hand, it explores the potentialities of image- and range-based digital models for assessing the state of preservation. More specifically, the discussion focuses on the main procedures currently available for the semi-automatic mapping of textured point clouds, textured polygonal meshes and orthoimages. On the other hand, the chapter pays particular attention to the use of VR-based digital models for the systematisation of technical knowledge. In this respect, it examines the role of virtual digital models in the conservation process, as well as their main characteristics as conceptually structured models for storing and relating technical knowledge.

摘要
