Teacher training is a key element in the digital transformation of universities. This article reports the training experience on the design and planning of online subjects and the creation of online learning resources aimed at teaching staff of university degrees at the University of Huelva that will begin their virtualisation in 2024–25. The instructional design is described and the results of participation, academic performance and evaluation of the participants of two editions of an online course taught between April and July 2024 are presented. Almost all of them perceive it very positively in terms of usefulness, teaching performance and the acquisition of specific skills for online teaching. The importance of e-learning literacy in a broad and strategic sense, beyond the purely instrumental, is noted. The instructional design of the courses has tried to respond to the real training needs of the teaching staff; to leave time and space for the exchange of experiences and peer learning; to encourage the immediate application to teaching practice; and to provide tutorial support and personalised online advice for the development of their projects for the virtualisation of subjects.
