Body Language as an Art
摘要
Film, often regarded as the “seventh art” because it was born after architecture, sculpture, painting, music, dance, and poetry, is a form of art that originates from artistic creation and adheres to the aesthetic laws of art. Appreciating a film work is different from appreciating a painting, a sculpture or a play. What a film presents to the audience is a screen image imbued with a sense of motion and illusion. This moving image comes from the camera’s high-speed switching shutter (generally 24 frames per second), which captures a sequence of static frames in quick succession. Each frame records a subtle phase of the entire movement, and when these isolated static images are projected at high speed, they create the illusion of motion, bringing the images to life on the screen. The audiovisual and comprehensive nature of film determines how the body exists within it, and determines that body language will be exhibited in an entirely new stance and way.
