This chapter critically analyzes the Gulf Cooperation Council’s economic development and international relations concerning global renewable energy regulations. Historically reliant on fossil fuels, the Gulf Cooperation Council countries now face an untenable but promising circumstance as the world shifts toward effective, sustainable, and renewable energy sources considering climate change. These countries have economic diversification and growth plans. These plans are supported by a strategic long-term development plan, which involves a conscious decision to carry on the development sustainably. Therefore, within the context of the Gulf Cooperation Council member states, this chapter explores the interactions between their adoption and implementation of renewable energy, economic diversification efforts, and diplomatic activities. The strategic responses of the Gulf Cooperation Council nations to these challenges are particularly noteworthy, as they demonstrate a proactive approach to the changing global energy landscape. Through analyzing drivers, challenges, and Gulf Cooperation Council nations’ strategic responses, this chapter identifies the new dynamics of energy geopolitics in the context of the Gulf Cooperation Council. This analysis is also informed by Islamic philosophical perspectives on justice, sustainability, and the responsible stewardship of natural resources, which shape the Gulf Cooperation Council’s approaches to economic development and environmental policy.

摘要
