Migration Policies Amid Covid-19 in Origin, Transit, and Destination Areas

This chapter examines Indonesia's migration policies and governance challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic across origin, transit, and destination areas. It details the rapid implementation of stringent border controls and social restrictions to curb the virus spread. The chapter highlights the complex repatriation processes for Indonesian Migrant Workers (IMWs) through designated transit points like Batam and Entikong, and the challenges faced by undocumented migrants in accessing services. It concludes by emphasizing the need for robust, inclusive, and coordinated multilevel governance frameworks to protect migrant rights and enhance future crisis preparedness.
