The design which uses the present input and past output is sequential design. The output of the sequential circuit is function of the present input and past output. The sequential design using flip-flops is discussed in this chapter and basic discussed are useful during the speed optimization discussion in the subsequent chapters. This chapter mainly focuses on the basics of the sequential design and how to design the optimized sequential circuits.
